Saving the "Nation"

YoYonation was a great store.  It was more than a store though.  The “Nation” was a huge community with thousands and thousands of loyal customers and members of the online forum.  It was a juggernaut in yo-yo history.

The future of YoYoNation has been up in the air over for a while and with no store to fund the server costs, Weber is no longer able to (or should be expected to) sustain it. Because of this, I am sad to announce that the YoYoNation store will not re-open. With this bitter news though comes some goodness. YoYoSkills is taking ownership of the YoYoNation domains and forum! The forum has 1 million posts and over 15k members. A good portion of the forum posts are normal forum discussion, but some of it has great value as marks in yo-yo history that needs to be preserved. In the next few days, the forum will be frozen and put into maintenance mode.  The transition will begin and once moved over to the YoYoSkills server, the forum will re-open. The YoYoNation store is also a valuable resource with a crap-ton of detailed specs and images of yo-yos over the last decade. The YoYoNation store will be converted to an online Museum and act as a resource catalog. Because it will undoubtedly be asked, I have no plans to re-open the YoYonation store, or any store for that matter. All customer / purchase history is being purged. The old store will serve in the capacity as an online catalog only.  Hopefully, one we can start adding to.

I am doing all this to save what I feel is not only a valuable resource to have, but is also an important part of yo-yo history. Feel free to ask any questions as we adopt YoYoNation into the YoYoSkills family.

Okay doc, so being as annoying as i am, i want to thank you and also tell you how i got on this site; i was really new to yoyoing, and loved my yomega maverick. I still could not see why everyone loved unresponsive yoyos and was all mad at yomega. I decided to read up on it, and i stumbled upon your reviews of the maverick, hotshot, and lancer by yomega. Of course i was very confused as to why someone would not enjoy what i considered a perfect yoyo. Aaaaaand torturously long story short… That is how i got into unresponsive play. That is also how i started checking this blog and reading all of the reviews. I want to thank you for essentially getting me into this hobby, as well as for all you do for the yoyo community. This new development is an amazing example of all that you do. So once again, thank you and sorry if this post was unnecessary/ annoying.

Chris — how did you end up being the one that took this, as opposed to others who had shown interest in the past?

smart move! congrats! having such a big forum without the inconveniences of belonging to a online store will make it even better: freedom to post links to a yoyo store or anything you want. Well done Chris!

Chris, Thanks a lot for doing this! The nation was a very nice forum with a lot going on. I still have 1 question: Will you be able to migrate the trader feedback system? I think a lot of people have tons of feedback there (50+, 100+, 150+,…)

This is big news. Thanks a lot for doing this! I find YYN to be an excellent source of information on yoyos and yoyoing in general.

The forum and the shop are a part of our (ILYY) early history. This is where it all started. Its a great thing that it will be sustained. Thanks!
