This past Saturday, the Park Place Teen Center in New Philadelphia, Ohio played host to the Parkdama Winter Slinger. Corey Gorbey, Andrew Bentley, and Brandon Yoder organized the event, drawing in a impressive crowd and more prize sponsors than you could shake a ken at.

The event provided everyone an opportunity to win those prizes with informal “simon says” games, official trick ladders for all skill levels, and simply tossing items out over the heads of participants and spectators. Andrew said, “We have so many prizes to give away, we’re having to invent games for people to play for stuff.”

In addition to the prizes, the event provided a communal, friendly atmosphere. Everyone was so nice, so relaxed, and happy – it hardly felt like there was a contest going on at all. Great music blared over the PA, friends cheered one another in side games of KEN, and the Park Place Teen Center had good food to vend and plenty of seating for spectators.

Cam Herrero won both the pro and advanced battles while Jamie Brady won intermediate. T.J Harris took home the 7 to Spike title followed by Brandon Yoder in second. The contest culminated in a third place tie between Jamie Brady and Zack Lafromboise. In true kendama style, they broke the tie with a game of KEN that left Zach coming out on top.
