Yo-Yo Fundraiser for Nepal – #yoyopride

With the recent earthquakes in Nepal, The Salvation Army International Emergency Services team is on the ground in Nepal to support local officials and assess how best The Salvation Army can respond in partnership with other agencies.

In the aftermath of such devastation, it is encouraging to see communities and individuals partner collaboratively to lend a helping hand.  In Vancouver, one young man in particular has set his sights on raising money for The Salvation Army’s earthquake relief efforts in Nepal.

Michael Wang and his friends from the Vancouver YoYo Club spent the day outside Pacific Center’s Rotunda Plaza on Sunday, June 7 from 11am – 5pm, eager to make a difference and raise funds while yo-yoing.
He was compelled to contact The Salvation Army when he saw news about both earthquakes in Nepal, and knew he had to do something to make a difference.

Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army BC Division, Lt. Colonel Major Larry Martin went on to say, “The Salvation Army is inspired to see young people like Michael using their talents to get involved in their communities. Especially as disasters hit, we all need to join together to support individuals, families and one another.”

To date, The Salvation Army has assisted in serving thousands with food, water, tarps, and by managing camps for those whose homes were destroyed. Damaris Frick – from The Salvation Army’s International Emergency Services team in Nepal stated; “Every person in Kathmandu seems to be sleeping outside tonight, so we will take our mats and sleeping bags and do the same.”

Yoyo For Nepal raised a grand total of 1140 in donations for Nepal.
