To say we excited about how the New York Yo-Yo Slam is coming together is an understatement.
No doubt this is one of the most exciting things to happen to yo-yo contests in a long time. YoYoSam has partnered with a television production company to produce a TV show out of the event. We will then use the TV show to show off the way the event works, the great yo-yoing talent that is out there, and share our vision for how yo-yoing contests can be a great spectator sport.
This format will also provide an opportunity to do player profiles and interviews and let the audience get to know the players personally. So many great players have great stories and great personalities. By making that part of the show it gives the players a chance to be better known by the audience and the community as well as making for a more engaging competition.
So far the support we’ve gotten from the community has been great. With the exception of a few facebook haters, and some legitimate skepticism from some in the community, overal,l we’ve been really pleased with the willingness of many to rally around and embrace this new kind of contest. Thanks to everyone for support.
I want to give a special shout out to some of the companies that have stepped up to support and help promote the New York Yo-Yo Slam so far. Big thanks to One Drop, Monkey Finger, Duncan, Vosun, Dif-e-Yo, King Yo Star, Yomega, yoyoZeekio, Bahama Kendama, and of course, Yoyoskills.
The fact that we will be producing this event for television, will require all participants to sign a release. If you are younger than 18, you will need to have a parent or guardian sign the release. If you are over 18 you will need to bring ID.
Please like The New York Yo-Yo Slam on facebook for more updates. If you want to be part of the show just click here to register.
Bring friends and family, this should be a blast for everyone!
If you are interested in being a sponsor, contact us though facebook, or the contact form at nystateyoyo.com.
The event will be Saturday, September 19th at the Strong Museum of Play in Rochester, NY.
Thanks again to all those that are helping us to make the event and the show an exciting and fun experience!
