EXCLUSIVE : New “Throw” from SPYY - SPYY Pro

Super awesome SPYY guy Steve sent me these exclusive pictures of a never before seen prototype, fresh off the machine.

Expect these to be finished and hit the stores in about a month or so.

SPYY Pro key points:
- super-super wide profile at 44mm width
- gap 4.5mm
- 54mm diameter
- weight 67.5g
- massive rim weight percentage. No spike and a short axle!
- super low wall
- recessed pads and accepts silicone
- C bearing

When you hold it in the hand it looks and feels like “all gap”. It’s
crazy stable, stays on plane and super long spinning… built this
with the competitor in mind.
Due to hit stores in a month or so.

-Steve

More images after the jump.

WARNING: Prepare a bib.

Biggest thing that hits me?  LOOK AT THAT RESPONSE AREA!!!!!!!!!!   It is so eye pleasing,  like kittens painting ponies!

want.

    Can’t be a SPYY; there’s no spike. >_<

  2. #2 by //void - April 12th, 2010 at 09:08

Yeah, that`s right, this is not SPYY - no spikes :)

  3. #3 by Jared - April 12th, 2010 at 09:40

Looks pretty similar to a Stargazer. *thumbs up* I miss the spike though :[

  4. #4 by bk - April 12th, 2010 at 10:19

Yeah I thought it looked like a Stargazer too. The company that can capitalize on the YYR buzz and offer similar shape/feel at a much lower price will win big.

Obviously, YYR’s pricing in the US gets hurt by the weakness of the dollar.

Wow, I normally like SPYY’s stuff, but this might be the ugliest yoyo I’ve ever seen.

  6. #6 by SCUBA Steve - April 12th, 2010 at 11:24

Wow - I had no idea that people only liked SPYYs for the spike :) Just wait until you play it!

  7. #7 by SCUBA Steve - April 12th, 2010 at 11:25

I’d check this image again if you think it’s anywhere to the Stargazer :http://www.yoyonation.com/product_image.php?imageid=3021

i would be all over this if it wasnt so wide but ill have to play it to find out if i like it

  9. #9 by bk - April 12th, 2010 at 12:45

Sure, it’s different but reminiscent of a wide, less angled Stargazer v2: http://cdn.yoyoexpert.com/145/view/images/02.jpg

It looks like that yoyo called the Rok.

More d bearings spyy more d bearings!!

I wouldn’t say that people like Spyy only for the spike.

It’s more of a defining feature of SPYY. A big part of its soul is a good spike. I know how the Skyy chaser had its spike size reduced, maybe you could do something like that (but reduce it even more).

I was joking with my remark about the spike. I like the way it looks, Steve! and it completely retains the SPYY appearance.

Drool drool Im so glad I got that bib….

  17. #17 by Vendetta - April 12th, 2010 at 18:21

Looks interesting. I think the spike would fit actually, so I’m curious why it isn’t there. It isn’t that SPYY yoyos are ONLY good because of the spike, but rather, people just dig the spike in and of itself, and it’s a nice aesthetic.

  18. #18 by SCUBA Steve - April 12th, 2010 at 19:16

The spikes consume a few grams of material and don’t contribute much to the yoyos moment of inertia about it’s axis. My goal was to create an all out compition grade yoyo with extreme rim weighting/spin times. It still plays and feels like a SPYY (on steroids!), but without the spikes. I dare everyone to give it a chance and judge it only once you’ve given one a spin. It’s stability is unreal and makes long combos a breeze. A couple of local players were beside themselves after spending a few hours with them :)

kinda looks like a diF. when i think spYY i think hubspikes but change is good every once and a while.

Eh on the shape, but I’ll get past it… if SPYY makes it, its gotta kick tushie.

There ya go folks. Good enough for me. I’m sure it plays great!

I mainly hope for the possibility of being able to put a halfspec on, 4.5 mm is too big for me.

Also to the people who say it’s ugly, I’m sure it’ll look tons better with a BB and ano by vendetta.

Personally, nowadays the defining attribute of spyy for me is the IRG and how it has a circle on the end.
Also the circle above that makes me think of the senza nome.

I need one of these, it looks epic for 5a…

  24. #24 by Justin B. - April 13th, 2010 at 21:43

Looks very nice. I’d prefer it a few grams lighter though. Also, I don’t really like the hub area, but maybe it’ll look better once it’s ano’d.
