I Quit YoYoFactory – by Jensen Kimmitt

[Note: Jensen contacted me about posting up his statement of departure from YoYoFactory. As a journalist, player, and fan of Jensen’s, I am happy to give him a public podium. -Chris]

I went to YoYoFactory with self-promotion in mind. I knew that making the switch from CLYW to YYF would make a big splash for 2010 and I needed all the help I could get if I was going to win worlds. In the end, YoYoFactory did a great job promoting me, but I was starting to feel detached from the fun of just yo-yoing. I got caught up in winning contests and looking cool or something. That’s not me. I’m just a guy who likes to yo-yo and make people laugh. So, I’m gonna go do that.

I really hope that Jensen doesnt go to another team. I want him to win worlds, no sponsor, using whatever he wants. Show people you dont have to be on a team, or be sponsored to win a big contest. Do it with a velocity if its not awkward, Jensen.

I was really happy for Jensen, he should do what makes him happy. Then i noticed that he disabeled his youtube facebook twitter and vimeo account. Now where do we go for our Jensen Kimmitt fix?

Any speculation as to where he is going is just that. I dont think he is headed anywhere and will probably stay stag for a while.

that would make sense if he was going to yomega because he was talking about how he wants to make throws that are cheap but can go toe to toe with the high ends. he wants to teach and give back to the yoyo community, and no matter what your view on yomega is the fact is 9 out of 10 of us started off on them or at least used them when we where starting.

Nothing wrong with them (i dont personaly like the company from personal experience with their products) I just dont see a possibility of him joining YYJ. It wouldn’t make sense. I agree with you that it would be cool to see him back with CLYW.

i did feel like he became a puppet for yyf. i feel that using the northstar to win was purely a popularity stunt. now he is free.

to everyone who wants to be sponsored, think that you have a responsibility. it may be fine for a while, but any responsibility will grow the better you do.

@Pearson What’s wrong with YYJ? I just hope he goes indie for awhile. If he goes anywhere I hope it would be CLYW.

Shouldn’t matter where Jensen will go after departing from YYF. As long he still has the love for yoyoing, I think that’s all that matters. Not the accolades or fame, just the pure fun of yoyoing.

Now I think about it…he was only a YYF member for less than a year.

…and what will happen to his signature throws?

“I got caught up in winning contests and looking cool or something”
It is ok to be like that for sometimes, everyone does that.

“That’s not me. I’m just a guy who likes to yo-yo and make people laugh”
Thumbs up for not being arrogant despite been a World Champion

“So, I’m gonna go do that”
Quitting may not be a good solution because you can still do whatever things as long you feel like to do it even you are in the team. Unless there is something that we dont know and you dont feel like talking about it. It’s ok.

Regardless of everything, good thing that you are still into yoyo-ing and that’s matter 🙂

Ugh, YYJ! I seriously doubt that in every way possible. Maybe SPYY? They are a Canadian company like CLYW so maybe? Either way, he’s gonna be amazing.

I think YYF has more than enough world and national champions already on the team, but Jensen really seemed to fit in with the “Like-A-Boss” vibe that YYF has. Maybe he will be like Kentaro and start a new company, or maybe he will rejoin CLYW. Even if he just decides to stay indie, he’s gonna be huge.

worlds 2011? i dont think he’s going to even compete, if he dose it might be in the ap division. hes taking the same type of step that ando did and andre and JD etc… he won and now hes going to take his next challenge which could be a number of things from judging to just giving back vie tutorials and stuff through modern yoyoing or just stepping back from it all and rediscover his love for throwing. i dont think hes going to join any teams or make a company i think hes going to keep making vids and possibly some tutorials and trick tips but i dont see him joining any teams or anything like that anytime soon.
